It is important to know when you should start working, when you should take a break or see how much time you spend on a particular task. It can make all the difference between a well organized schedule and a pile of unfinished documents, unattended meetings and so on. A countdown timer will remind you how much time you have left for a certain task or when it is time to focus on something else. Such applications are not hard to find, but if you need more efficiency, GTD Timer can provide it.

The application is free to try, for a limited period of time, without any restrictions. Its installation file is small and the setup procedure is straightforward. GTD Timer works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and you can also find different versions for Android phones and Windows Phone 7.

You may configure and start the timer on a compact window. What makes GTD Timer different from other similar applications is the possibility of creating various presets. The software comes with a good number of predefined timers, for work or break sessions or automatic tasks, like shutting down the computer. You can either select a preset from a drop menu, specify your own time interval, or click one of the buttons from the lower edge of the window to start a work or break session or a stopwatch.

The stopwatch or countdown timer is displayed on a smaller, transparent window, which is colored differently, depending on what session you start. You can find a few controls to stop, pause or resume your timer or select a different preset. The interesting part is that you can associate two presets with different buttons, located on the same window, making it possible to select a different preset with a single click.

Some of the available presets, like the GTD Two Minute Rule or the Pomodoro sessions, are well known methods of increasing one's productivity. If you have your own ideas, you may create new presets yourself. They are created and managed on the software's general settings panel and configured on a separate window. You can select a standard countdown, an alarm for a certain hour or a stopwatch, use audio files, in .wav format, as an alarm, and set up various actions. When a timer expires, the program may continue counting, restart the current preset or start a different one. Additionally, you may insert a command line and parameters.

Pros

GTD Timer includes some efficient methods of timing your work and other tasks. It comes with numerous presets and it lets you create your own. When a timer expires, the software can start a different preset. The timer window can be color coded, to represent different presets.

Cons

The software's functions are placed on multiple windows, which can be a bit uncomfortable. With GTD Timer, you will know exactly how much time you have left for certain tasks and when to focus on other ones. It provides you with everything you need to increase your productivity.
